Over 25 years ago, Paul Renzaglia never would have thought that a family venture would have such a profound effect on Southern Illinois and its community. From the very first plantings in 1982, the Renzaglia family and Alto Vineyards were committed to introducing a new industry to the Shawnee Hills region. In 1986 the first vintage of grapes was sold to the Kohler Family at Lynfred Winery in Chicago. Two years later in May of 1988, the Renzaglia family began construction on small 600 square foot winery in Alto Pass, IL. December of 1988, the family released its first 1,500 gallons of Illinois wine and sold out in 3 days. At the time, there were only 6 other wineries in the state of Illinois. Alto Vineyards has Won over 500 National and International awards in wine competitions across the nation, never forgetting the family philosophy to produce the highest quality wines possible.

Who do you recommend for bands at the venue?
It really depends on their choice. Being a winery we prefer more mellow tunes 🙂 as the other customers may be able to hear the band. We do have power; however we don’t have a sound system. Whomever you hire would need to provide that. Bands we have had played are more along the lines of blues: Candy Foster is our most popular. Recently we have had some music on Sundays — Katie Flynn would probably be a strong recommendation along with Just Peachy. Katie has more of a cabaret sound. Just Peachy does 60’s to current. Love Signs is coming out in August. They could be another possibility from what I’ve heard
